Deck Cleaning – What is the best way to clean decking?
Regular deck cleanings are a must if you want to keep your deck looking like new. But a deck cleaning is also important to maintain the safety and usability of your deck. NorthEast PowerWashing is a power washing company that has over 10 years of experience cleaning houses, roofs, commercial properties – and decks!
Power Washing Decking
In a typical deck cleaning situation, we apply a diluted deck cleaning solution to all deck flooring, railings, and spindles. Then we do a thorough rinse. We take precautions to make sure that any landscaping around the deck is watered down before and after we apply our cleaning solution. We do not use high pressure in a general deck cleaning. This is safe for all decking materials and any surrounding landscaping.
Recently, we completed a deck cleaning job at Safe Harbor Ferry Point Marina in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. We power washed over 22,000 square feet of docks at the marina. These docks consisted of a variety of materials including IPE and composite decking. Because it is a marina, the decking there extends out over the ocean. Hence, we had to be careful not to get any of our cleaning solution into the water to stay within EPA regulations. So, we had to power wash using only water. Despite the challenges, we got the job done right!
We Can Help!
There are many different types of decks, but most commonly in Connecticut we see pressure treated wood, composite, and exotic or hardwoods. All of these types of decking get dirty over time, but dirt isn’t the main threat to the safety of your deck. Algae and mildew can retain moisture and keep the surfaces of your deck wet, which can lead to rot. Depending on how much shade the area gets and how humid the year has been, you might be wondering “How do I get green algae off my deck?” That’s what we’re here for!
